Два года в девятом классе, вариант 1

- Lauren, why did you graduate from high school when you were 19? Usually people graduate when they are 18.

- Oh, you see, I failed 9th grade. So I had to study in 9th grade twice.

- Why did you fail 9th grade? What happened? Was it a really hard year?

- My 9th grade classes were easy, but I had a lot of problems in my family. My mother was seriously ill, and it was a really difficult time for us. Then my father was fired from his job, so it made life almost impossible. I just couldn’t focus in school.

- Wow, that sounds really hard. How did you cope with all of this?

- Well, first I had to start working to help support my family. Second, I just tried to avoid all of my problems. I read a lot, and listened to music. I couldn’t focus in school, though, and it showed.

- How is your mother doing now?

- She survived. She didn’t die, thank God. She is actually fine now. It’s like a miracle.
