After graduating from college and receiving her bachelor’s degree, Clara really wasn’t sure what her next step in life should be. Her parents really wished that she would go to law school and receive a JD degree. On the other hand, her boyfriend told her she had better go to business school and get an MBA, because business gives you a of lot opportunities. On the contrary, Clara’s real wish was to be a writer. She often mused to herself, “if only everyone would stop telling me what to do.” She wished that her parents and boyfriend would let her make this big decision on her own. Clara often disagreed with her parents and argued with her boyfriend about what she should do with her life. Her parents defended themselves, saying that they couldn’t help but give her advice. That is what parents do, after all. In the end Clara left home for a little while to examine her feelings, and she decided to pursue a master’s degree in English literature. Though her parents and boyfriend urged her to choose a professional degree, Clara was happy with her master’s degree. She preferred studying literature and she ultimately found a job as a literature teacher.
