Though Josie had always had an upbeat personality, she was finally sick and tired of always being called an airhead. Instead of being a studious person, she was social. She had many friends, was on her school’s cheerleading squad, and went out every weekend. She decided, however, that the time had come for her to convince her parents that she could be a scholar, like her older sister. Her older sister, who was the brains in the family, had always encouraged Josie to read more; so Josie rummaged through her sister’s books and found a few that looked interesting. She also decided to assist her father, who was a magazine editor, in editing some of his articles. Her father was quite impressed by Josie’s new attitude, and had her edit some of his less complicated articles. She quit going out on the weekends and stopped cheerleading. Finally, when she applied to university and was accepted by Cornell, her family was convinced that she had changed 180 degrees. “Wow, Josie,” her sister said to her. “You’ve changed so much. But truth be told, I miss the happy-go-lucky girl I used to know!”
